Orange announce 2020 schedule

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The 2020 Syracuse football schedule has been announced by the Atlantic Coast Conference and it features six home games in the Carrier Dome, with visits from Colgate, Louisville, Liberty, Georgia Tech, NC State and Florida State.



The Orange open the season on the road Friday, Sept. 4 against Boston College.



Eight of Syracuse’s 2020 opponents played in bowl games this past year, with four winning their bowl. Five of the Orange’s foes won at least eight games in 2019.



Sept. 4 (Fri.) – at Boston College (Alumni Stadium)

Syracuse begins the campaign against a conference opponent for the second time in school history and first time since 2005 (vs. West Virginia) … The Orange will be going for their third consecutive win at Alumni Stadium … Head coach Dino Babers is 2-0 in road games against the Eagles, leading the Orange to victories in Chestnut Hill in 2016 and 2018.



Sept. 12 – at Rutgers (SHI Stadium)

Syracuse remains on the road in Week 2 to play Rutgers … The game marks the first meeting between the schools since 2012 when both were members of the BIG EAST Conference … The Orange are 30-12-1 all-time against the Scarlet Knights, including a 12-6 road record.



Sept. 19 – vs. Colgate (Carrier Dome)

The Orange host FCS opponent Colgate in their first game inside the newly-renovated Carrier Dome … Since the Dome opened in 1980, Syracuse is 17-0 at home against FCS foes … The Orange have won 16 straight in the series dating back to 1951, including a 33-7 victory in the 2016 season opener – Dino Babers’ first game as Syracuse’s head coach.



Sept. 26 – at Western Michigan (Waldo Stadium)

Syracuse travels to Waldo Stadium for the second time in the last three seasons … The Orange are 2-0 against Western Michigan, with victories in 2018 and 2019 … Including last season’s 52-33 triumph, Syracuse is averaging 53.5 points per game versus the Broncos.



Oct. 3 – vs. Louisville (Carrier Dome)

The Orange return to the Carrier Dome for an ACC Atlantic Division clash with Louisville … Four of Syracuse’s seven wins against the Cardinals have come at home, including its last three (2008, 2012, 2018) … In 2018, the Orange capitalized on four second-quarter Louisville turnovers to outscore the Cardinals 30-7 in the stanza on their way to a 54-23 victory.



Oct. 17 – vs. Liberty (Carrier Dome)

Following a bye, Syracuse concludes non-conference play at home against Liberty … Syracuse shut out the Flames 24-0 in last year’s season opener … The Orange defense forced four turnovers and recorded eight sacks in Syracuse’s first true road shutout since 1991.



Oct. 24 – at Clemson (Memorial Stadium)

The Orange’s only road game in October, Syracuse makes its way to Death Valley to face the five-time defending ACC champions … The Tigers have won 29 straight regular-season games … Their last regular-season loss was to Syracuse 27-24 on Oct. 13, 2017 at the Carrier Dome … In the last three seasons, only Syracuse, Alabama and LSU can claim wins over Clemson.



Oct. 31 – vs. Georgia Tech (Carrier Dome)

Syracuse hosts the Yellow Jackets for the first time … The Orange are 0-3 all-time against Georgia Tech, but 16-4 in games played on Halloween … The Orange last faced Georgia Tech at Bobby Dodd Stadium in 2013, Syracuse’s first year in the Atlantic Coast Conference.



Nov. 7 – at Wake Forest (BB&T Field)

Syracuse’s second road ACC game comes at BB&T Field against Wake Forest … The Orange have won the last two meetings, including last November’s 39-30 overtime victory … Syracuse has scored 30+ points in five of the last six games in the series.



Nov. 14 – vs. NC State (Carrier Dome)

The Orange return home for the first game of a two-week November homestand … When NC State last visited the Dome in 2018, the teams combined for 1,102 yards of offense, including 953 yards passing, in a game won by the Orange, 51-41.



Nov. 19 (Thurs.) – vs. Florida State (Carrier Dome)

Syracuse’s home finale will be the third Thursday night game in the history of the Carrier Dome … The last time the Seminoles came to Central New York in 2018, Syracuse ended its 10-game series losing streak with a 30-7 victory.



Nov. 28 – at Pittsburgh (Heinz Field)

The Orange conclude the regular season on the road against longtime rival Pittsburgh … The Orange’s most frequent opponent, this year’s Syracuse-Pitt contest is the 76th in a series that began in 1916 … Four of the last five meetings have been one-score games.



The 16th annual Dr Pepper Atlantic Coast Conference Football Championship Game will be played on Saturday, Dec. 5 at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina.



The Orange return 13 starters (7 offense, 4 defense, 2 specialists) from a squad that finished the 2019 season strong, winning two of its last three games.
