Counting the Stars

If I were to hand out stars to a list of probable offensive first teamers come the opening game against Villanova, here's how I would break it down. Note that I am basing these numbers on past performance and not potential.

Terrel Hunt: 3.75 Stars. Excellent when the pocket breaks down and moving the football with his feet. Still needs work on deep ball accuracy.

Prince Tyson Gulley: 2.75 Stars. A serviceable tailback

Ashton Broyld: 3.5 Stars. For how much Marrone raved about him, I've still yet to see it. Not a deep threat. Is decent in yards after catch. He is THE go to receiver though.

Jarrod West: 3 Stars. Not a deep threat. Seems to have a hard time gaining separation. Locates the ball decently enough.

Josh Parris: 3 Stars. Seems to catch everything, just like Kendall Moore (who I like better and would give 3.5 Stars to). Parris has a similar build to Moore and will probably be the starter, but Moore seems to be the bigger play threat. TE's seem to have been underutilized for the talent that seems to be apparent in this unit.

Brisly Estime: 3.75 Stars. Fast, fluid. If I were basing the star rating on what I think Brisly will be this year, I would say 4 Stars. Biggest Big play threat on the team, aside from T Hunt.

Sean Hickey: 4.5 Stars. We know he is the best prospect on this team, hands down. No one gets by him

Rob Trudo: 3.5 Stars. Has done his job and has been a coach's option since he set foot on campus

John Miller: Unknown

Nick Robinson: 3.5 Stars. In my mind I think of Nick as the big lumbering lumberjack who would always prefer to run block, but I have to say I don't pay much attention to the interior line during the course of a game. Could be way off here.

Ivan Foy: 3.5 Stars. Liked how he slid in nicely at tackle and played well for his first year there. Hope he continues to develop because I could see him raising this rating this year

Can Anyone Summarize Our Needs, Gets and Who We Can Reasonably Hope To Get?

Hey Guys,

I've been away from this site and board for a while due to computer virus attack and my wife's worsening health. I can't take the time necessary to scan the write-ups on the commits we now have. It looks like the staff is taking chances on some lower ranked kids and a few 3 star kids to bolster the line and other places. It looks like we're not seriously looking for another QB to add to the mix, but are looking hard for RBs, OLs, pass rushers and maybe a sprinkling of other positions. But it does trouble me that we've got so many commits now with guys who may be busts at the ACC level of competition unlike last year, when we got quite a few 3 star and one 4 star guy. And I don't know which of all those offers to 4 and 5 star kids are reasonably in SU's chances of a LOI. Usually we send offers to a lot of guys we have no chance of getting and then settle on lower ranked guys. I understand the reasoning for doing that==hey, you never know== but if anyone can give me a quick scope and analysis of who we've got now, who we're offering that really may visit, that would be a big help for me. Right now I have to start looking into medical clinics out of town as the Rochester doctors can't figure out what's wrong with Patricia and how to help her. I also am preparing for getting work done on my cervical and lumbar spine as they hurt so hard I can't take care of the house. Has anyone heard of "lasar spine institute" and what do you know about it? I know this is a sports board but am hoping my SU friends and fellow fans can answer just this one post about it.
Go team!

Evan Adams/AJ Duerig

So I have to admit, after seeing the video on these latest two OLine commits, I really like what I see.

Evan Adams (who btw is from my hometown) has a nasty streak

AJ Duerig looks like he hustles and doesn't stop trying to move his target until the whistle blows

Curious as to what others in the forum think of the video.

Elclarkey

Chandler Jones

Earlier this spring it was sown to Syracuse and Louisville, now after a couple months he has had some changes to the top of his list.

"My top favorites are Mississippi State, Louisville and Cincinnati right
now. They're all equal," Jones said. "I'm going back to Louisville for
my official visit, Syracuse in July and then I'm going to come back
here. The ultimate factor is that family atmosphere."

Ratings

Rivals is really taken it to us with our commit ratings. Clausman is a 2 star too. How do 247 have all our kids as solid 3 stars, Rivals gives us the 2 star treatment. Scout is in the middle. We have to get some consistency here. Evaluators are looking at things differently.

Tyrone Wheatley jr.

I have been on contact with Wheatley all through the process and even though he is not saying much about his recruitment he has told me what is going on a little bit.

He told me that during the spring Coach Daoust was in contact with him and that he was going to visit his school.

The spring time was gone and Daoust never made it out to check in on Wheatley. When i asked them if that will hurt SU when he narrows down his list in the next two weeks he did not respond.

This could be that Syracuse is ready to move on or it could be that Syracuse is in a different spot than most schools with Wheatley always being around the coaches and campus when he lived here and phone calls would be enough.

TJ will narrow his list down soon and we will see then.

Antoine Mason update

He has been released from his scholarship and been in contact with a lot of schools. Syracuse though is not one of them.

"I have been contacted by Cincinnati, Oklahoma State, Seton Hall, St Johns,
Providence, Auburn, Wake Forest, Maryland, Missouri, Texas A&M, Memphis,
LSU, Fordham, Tennessee, Oregon, Virginia Tech, Nevada, Boston College, Baylor, UCLA and more."

"Nobody is sticking out at this time."

It looks like Syracuse could still get in the mix if they wanted to, but i don't think so now. If they did not jump in right away they may feel fine with the roster they have.

Sheppard being an engineering student means that qualifying won't be an i

an issue unless he craps out on everything else required academically which isn't likely. Promising a field spot immediately is a bit unusual for the program but I;m sure it isn't the first time w have done that. He reads like a VIPi.e. "Very Important Prospect". G needs to seal this deal ASAP. I just hope this kid isn't just a bright lights and glamour hound.

Strickland is Orange

" I decided to take my talents to play college football for the next 4 years at Syracuse University. Just want to thank everyone who has been supporting me and has been helping me through this process. And just know that this all just the beginning.?‪#‎NextChapter‬?‪#‎OrangeMen‬

More on Hofrichter

I know that Ryan put out an article about K Sterling Hofrichter, but at the time we were both trying to get a hold of him and he finally got back to me. Here are some highlights of the conversation.

"I thought that Syracuse was amazing, I loved it. We
went basically everywhere. We went to the Dorms, the Carrier Dome, the
locker room, weight room, practice fields, academic buildings. A couple things that stick out are the Carrier Dome, the Dorms and that Syracuse has a kicking coach".

"The
highlights were getting to see the campus in person, seeing the Carrier
Dome, and meeting and talking to some of the coach's like Coach Shafer
and Coach Gould".

He mentioned the Dome a few times and that is something that sticks out in his mind.

"Yeah, that definitely entices me. It would be sweet to be able to kick in a dome and not have to worry about any type of weather".

When we talked about the practice facility:

"Yes sir. That's only going to make it better. Being able to practice indoor when you want to will be great".

I asked him about a commitment:

"I
will probably commit at the beginning of July. It may be earlier than
that or later. I will have to weigh out my choices and see what best
fits me. Right now Syracuse is my only offer so they are the top school at this moment. Only time will tell if they stay at the top".
