So before this Maryland game, our AD comes out in the media and says "This is our opportunity, it's right in front of us, to become relevant over the next 2 weeks from a national perspective."
He might as well say to Shafer, "Get it done. This is huge. Do I have to remind you?" Now I know Daryl isn't saying to Shafer, "Get it done because if you don't you've lost your chance and your job is in jeopardy." But he IS just about saying, if you don't do it, you've lost your chance." And he makes these kind of statements before the third game of the season!
He might as well yell out, "Jinx!!" Honestly. I think Daryl Gross has done A LOT for the athletic department ...more than I want to count here. But this statement is just completely asinine, coming out as it does, when it does. Now is a time more than ever you want your coaches and players to keep their head down, do the hard work in prep, and just go out there and play. Daryl Gross' big mouth is counterproductive to all of the above. How many times does a coach have to say, "we just need to think about the next game." And then Mr. Gross comes along and says, "But remember this could be HUGE for us in a couple weeks." What?? You want to steal focus at a time like this? Just STUPID! I think he owes Shafer and team a BIG apology
Here's another one from the Doctor on playing Notre Dame: "It's not just a nationally televised game, it's an event. It's an incredible event. It's like a mini bowl game in the middle of the season. So to say that it's significant is an understatement."
But no pressure, Scott. No pressure.
Yes, yes, I know Shafer already feels pressure. What college coach doesn't? But what the H is Gross piling on for?
Shut up and let the players play. If you want to talk, why don't you wait until after the results come in?
